Split Charge Relay (ITEM 2)

All the parts required to enable you to charge up your camper vans leisure battery using the starter battery/alternator of your vehicle. Included in the kit is a voltage sensitive relay that only draws power and charges your leisure battery when your starter battery is at a certain voltage. This ensures that you never end up with a flat starter battery in your vehicle.

Please note, this is only suitable for vehicles with a standard alternator. If you have a smart alternator you'll need our DC-DC version of this kit which will be available very soon.

  • 12V port

Cabling Lengths

  • Power in - 1.5mm2 twincore thinwall automotive cable - 5M

Remote Control LED Lighting (ITEM 6)

Easy plug and play lighting circuit to install in your roof or cabinets. Each LED light simply plugs into a distribution box which is then powered by a remote control unit. This allows you to turn the lights on and off with the remote and it also provides a dimmer function.

240V Mains Equipment - Inverter Input (ITEM 9)

This is a small mains consumer unit that runs from the surface mount 16A hook up point on the outside of your van and feeds the input of the inverter. This protects the inverter from any power surges and overloads and is the first point of safety, providing an earth to both the inverter body and the chassis of your camper van.

Details

240V Mains Equipment - Inverter Output (ITEM 10)

This is the central mains consumer unit for the camper van. This takes the output from the inverter/hook up and feeds the power via double pole RCD's and MCB's to the mains sockets and switches.

Details

  • 12 way plastic consumer unit
  • 30mA 63A double pole RCD
  • 2 X 10A double pole MCB's

  • 2 X double surface mount back boxes
  • Single surface mount back box
  • Relevant electrical safety stickers

Cabling Lengths

  • Inverter output - 2.5mm2 three core flex - 2M

  • Sockets & Switches - 2.5mm2 three core flex - 3M each

The mains components in this kit conform to British safety standard BS 7671:2018. This is due to the sockets and switches being double pole as well as the consumer unit containing double pole RCDs and MCBs. When using your camper in the EU, they tend to use a system where the natural is not earthed, having double pole equipment ensures a higher level of safety. The outlets are also individually protected by their own MCBs as per regulations.

Build Information

We'll be in touch after your purchase to gather the cable lengths you need for your camper van build. Each cable on the main image will be numbered and we'll ask you to provide the required length for each of them in a table we'll provide (apart from some that are a set length due to safety reasons, for example, fusing close to a source of power).

Please pay attention to the overall length of cables offered in the product description. If your custom lengths are longer than offered, this will occur additional charges.

Please note any kits customized to a customer specification will fall under our custom item refund policy and will be non refundable so please ensure you know what you are buying before committing to purchase.

We recommend all wiring and installation be carried out by a qualified professional. Disconnect all AC and DC power sources to prevent accidental shock. It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure compliance with all the applicable installation codes, regulations, and to ensure the equipment is fitted correctly.

The lead time on the build is currently 14 days.

Battery Information

We get asked this question a lot. What type and size of leisure battery should I use?

It's a valid question, but for this kit, you'll need a little more power than the norm.

For leisure battery technology we would normally recommend AGM or Absorbent Glass Mat batteries.

In regards to capacity, for this 3KW kit the minimum we would recommend would be a battery, or battery bank with a 300Ah capacity. You'll probably find creating this from one or two batteries in parallel cheaper than buying one large battery.

Custom Kits

We know one size doesn't necessarily fit all, but we needed to draw the line somewhere in our offering. If you need something a bit different or perhaps an adaptation of this camper van electrical kit, please email your requirements to hello@wiredcampers.co.uk.
